To say that the character of Mavis Gary in the film Young Adult has, in retrospect, little or no depth at all would be ludicrous. Merely calling her a “psychotic prom queen bitch”, as she is so eloquently described by one of the characters, does as much damage to her as to any and all people who are suffering from mental illness.
