It’s fantastic when people you admire are sent to cover an event as a group, in this case the Volvo Ocean Race. Puma did an extraordinary job at picking Ashley Simko, James Nord, Ned Hepburn, Sean Sullivan, Jamie from From Me To You, amongst others to form the Puma Ten: a group of photographers, writers, and bloggers who will post updates on the sportswear company’s crew before they leave for China. Furthermore, Puma has allowed the group to cover the event as they see fit, which makes for some wonderful creations, such as the one you see above.
Puma was inspired by Tumblr itself after it chose a group of bloggers to cover New York Fashion Week. And they no doubt took advantage of the reblog function to ensure that posts be shared with quite a large number of people. This is truly a win-win for everyone involved, and it really, “represents a new step to major brand-sponsored blogger coverage of an international sporting match.” [1]
I highly suggest that all of you take the time to look at the images and read the accounts of the race.
To make it easier for everyone, Tumblr has created the sailing hashtag, which is updated frequently.
