SUBMISSIONS

This is a side project of mine, and I invite you all to contribute if you so desire. Here are the guidelines:

We are happy to announce that we are holding submissions for fine pieces of writing and elegant images. If you do not know us yet, please visit us here. If you know and enjoy Atelier Balbec and would like to contribute by publishing an image or a text, please contact us after reading the following guidelines. Thank you.

Texts:

• The subject and literary genre are free, as long as they fall into the broad category of “Arts & Letters”. We are especially interested in cultural, social and political commentary; reviews, articles, and essays about literature and film; current events; poetry, fiction, and creative prose, dialogues, and interviews.

• Concerning form and style. Texts should ideally be shorter than 1189 words, and must be original work; they can be published elsewhere, as long as the author has copyrights over them.

• The tone of the essays, articles, and reviews should be elegant, conversational, and non-academic.

• We publish texts in English and Spanish.

Photographs and drawings:

• No restrictions concerning the subject matter, as well as the media (painting, etching, drawing, collage, photo, &c.). However, it is important to consider how would the image look on the website, and to aim at achieving a harmonious aesthetic effect.

• Ideal dimensions are 700 x 700 (which can vary), and the definition should be as high as possible.

• Normally, graphic pieces go with a text (but do not illustrate it) or become the front-page of the issue in question; depending on each issue, they can also be exhibited individually.

General questions:

• Deadline for August issue: July 27th, 11:00 pm.

• Send your submission to atbalbec@gmail.com and include your name or pseudonym, your piece’s title, and your webpage or Twitter username.

• 3 days after sending your files, you will get an email notification from us; if you do not, please send your work again.

• The fact of sending us a submission does not guarantee that it will be published: this depends on each issue’s editorial criteria. Even if we do not publish your work immediately, we will consider it for publication in a future issue. If this were the case, we would notify you.

• Atelier Balbec claims no ownership over the work of its contributors.

• Atelier Balbec is fully aware of art’s high value and of the enormous amount of work that creation implies. We know that art is a craft that must be remunerated. We therefore regret to announce that for the time being we are unable to pay our contributors with money. It is one of our priorities to amend this, and we are working on it.
